“When we were in the studio, I tried to impose a direction for it that would be a more Motown idea of rendering it in a Reverend Al Green way, and I just didn’t make my articulations clear enough. So I felt, to get the idea across, I’d better actually do a demo.
So I went home and put together a thing with a drum machine and an electric piano and sent it out, but by this stage it was well after the fact.”
