There Goes God
Neil Finn/Tim Finn

What’ll I tell him
When he comes to me for absolution
Wouldn’t you know it
Hope I don’t make a bad decision

‘Cause I’d like to believe
That there is a god
Why sinful angels suffer for love
I’d like to believe
In the terrible truth in the beautiful lies

Like to know you
But in this town I can’t get arrested
And if you know me
Why don’t you tell me what I’m thinking

Hey don’t look now
But there goes God
In his sexy pants and his sausage dog
And he can’t stand Beelzebub
’Cause he looks so good in black, in black

Hey don’t look now
But there goes God
In his sexy pants and his sausage dog
And he can’t stand Beelzebub
’Cause he looks so good in black, in black, in black

There goes God
There goes God
There goes God
There goes God
(Make yourself known)
There goes God

There is a God
(Prince knows him for sure)
There goes God
(Check your hat in at the stand)
There goes God
(Hey I’d like to shake his hand)
There goes God
(Make yourself known)
There goes God

Song appears on:

Crowded House - Woodface (1991 album)

Live: Fangradio broadcasts 2020-2021

It wasn’t our initial idea to put harmonica on the song at all, but Chris Wilson heard us playing in Prahran and he was very attached to the song and said, ‘Let me have a play on it when you come to record it.’

So we got him up and he crouched down before we were about to start playing the song and looked completely lost and in some private thoughts. Then the song started and he stood up and raised his arm into the heavens and played one take.

We kept the entire take and we asked him, ‘What were you doing, Chris? You know, you looked pretty flamboyant, pretty dramatic,’ and he said, ‘Oh, I was just pretending I was God.’
