I Love You Dawn
Neil Finn

I love you Dawn
You understand
The strength of ten
Men in your hands
It was another tear
It was another time
All is not lost
And we will shine

Beneath the tall trees I believe
There’s nothing you and me
Can’t do together if we try
The day is long and the nights are cold
Just a song to warm your soul
I don’t want to see you cry

I love you Dawn
You understand
The strength of ten
Men in your hands
Was another tear
Was another time
All is not lost
And we will shine

Above the billboards and the hordes
Magazines and rock awards
We can’t afford to pay our bills
The day is long and the nights are cold
Just a song to warm your soul
I don’t want to see you cry
I love you Dawn

I love you Dawn
You understand
The strength of ten
Men in your hands
Was another tear, another year
Another time
All is not lost
And we will shine
Shine, Shine

I Love You Dawn was recorded in around 1989 as part of a bunch of demos we did. Really the first recording we did after Temple of Low Men, and originally these were songs intended for Woodface. When the album really came around, the problem with a lot of those original demos is that there was just too much good stuff around and they were kind of old and so we’d kind of grown through them, got over them.

But this was always, in my mind, a really worthy demo, a good performance and it’s kind of special because it’s a song I wrote for my wife, Sharon Dawn, and quite a direct song for me.
