Here’s A Note (studio demo)
Neil Finn

Don’t be held by what you think now
Before too long the logic will out
The revelation’s something to behold

Where’s the note
You want to unfold
Carrying on
The notions of old
Placed in piles
And spread around the house

I came upon a long lost verse
They sent the prose to quench my thirst
The one who’ll make it panning for gold

Here’s a note
You’ll want to unfold
Carrying on
The notions of old
Placed in piles
And spread around the house

You look tired
Well, inspired
Display it on anything that moves
Well, I saw it in a Sunday classroom

Where’d you go, my own dear son
Write it down before it’s begun
Pass it on before you get old
Pass it on before you get cold

Here’s the note
Carrying on
Here’s the note
Here’s the note

Here’s the note
Messiah

Display it on anything that moves
Inspired as a Sunday classroom

Crowded House - Time On Earth Deluxe Edition (2016)

The lyric is very much about my Dad who keeps notes for everything that happens in any given day. He’ll write a little note or he’ll cut a bit of the newspaper out to remind him of something and then he’ll put piles around the house. It’s like a filing system for him. He’ll read something in the paper and then he’ll think, ‘Oh, I remember reading something about that last week,’ and he’ll know where to go and look for it. It’s a good way of tidying your mind, writing notes to yourself.
