Ghosts
Neil & Liam Finn

I saw children digging
In my imagination
somewhere buried in the garden
That way they give a man disease
Oh they got to know me well
sleeping through the fearful night
I never wanted to poor Tony
brake into the railway track

Every time I woke up with a fright
I would suppose, I was a ghost
I don’t believe in them anymore
One day I’ll make it to you Cat Man won’t do

inside you
may be chosen by their worth
That evil man is in my head
like the stake we took to her
I been waiting for the moment
I drag her round, drag her round by her feet.
Led you to the muscle in my pocket
Make it down don’t make it up don’t make it blue

Every time I woke up with a fright
I would suppose, I was a ghost
I don’t believe in them anymore
Thief in the night
Trick of the light
I don’t believe in them anymore

Neil, rip it for me now

Liam created a spongy groove and a beautifully distressed backing track, then came a nonsensical vocal, drawing on child-like imagination, focused on fear of the unknown, a stream of consciousness, born of late night adventuring. Yes, that was it! And I came up with that line, ‘I don’t believe in them anymore’ - or was that Liam?
